Privacy Policy

Humanists Bangladesh is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information when you interact with our website: https://humanistsbd.org.

1. Who We Are

Our website address is: https://humanistsbd.org.
We are a nonprofit platform dedicated to promoting humanist values in Bangladesh.

For the safety and security of our founders, contributors, and volunteers, we do not disclose any physical office address or contact phone numbers. All communication must be done through our website or official email channels.

2. Comments

When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.

An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

After your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public in the context of your comment.

3. Media

Uploading images to the website should be done with caution, especially when those files contain embedded location information such as EXIF GPS data. Many devices automatically store precise coordinates inside photos, and if these images are uploaded without removing that metadata, visitors who download them may be able to extract the hidden location details with ease. This can unintentionally expose sensitive information about where the photo was taken, including private homes, workplaces, or other personal locations. To protect your privacy and ensure the safety of everyone contributing to the site, always remove GPS and other identifying metadata before uploading any images.

4. Cookies

We use cookies to enhance your experience:

  • If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These cookies last for one year.
  • If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  • When you log in, we set several cookies to save your login information and screen display preferences:
    • Login cookies last for two days.
    • Screen options cookies last for one year.
    • If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks.
  • If you log out, login cookies are removed.
  • If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.

5. Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These external websites may:

  • Collect data about you
  • Use cookies
  • Embed third-party tracking
  • Monitor your interaction with the embedded content

This may include tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

6. Who We Share Your Data With

When you request a password reset, the system automatically includes your IP address in the reset email as part of its security and verification process. This information helps confirm the legitimacy of the request and can be useful for identifying unusual or unauthorized activity, especially if the reset attempt originates from an unexpected location or device. However, it also means that your IP address becomes part of the communication sent to your email, so it’s important to be aware of this detail and ensure that your account recovery settings are secure and up to date.

7. How Long We Retain Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This helps us automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments instead of holding them for moderation.

For registered users (if any), we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except usernames). Website administrators can also view and edit this information.

8. Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you may request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you provided.

You may also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, except data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

9. Where Your Data Is Sent

Visitor comments submitted to the site may be automatically screened through a spam detection service to help maintain a safe and constructive environment for everyone. These systems analyze comment patterns, links, and other indicators to identify and filter out unwanted or harmful submissions before they appear publicly. While this process helps reduce spam and abusive content, it also means that user comments are briefly processed by automated tools for verification.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify or update this Privacy Policy at any time without prior notice. Any changes will be posted on this page.

By visiting or using our website, you acknowledge and agree that you accept the terms of this Privacy Policy and any future updates.
